York Vintage Event
*Do not speak about the train! Do not speak about the trains!*
During the first half of the year, my better half suggested to go to York for a vintage event at the York Raceourse. From what we could see online, there would be many stalls offering a variety of vintage pieces of clothing from the 20s all the way to the 80s and other artifacts from years long gone by.
As soon as we arrived, she spotted several stalls offering beautiful dresses. As you can imagine, it was impossible to walk past, so might as well embrace the lack of choice, and follow along. In all fairness, it was amazing to see the vintage outfits and I did consider treating myself to a nice suit. I only resisted the temptation by reminding myself that I would probably not wear it enough.
A few pounds lighter, and a new dress acquired, we decided to have an in depth look at all the other stalls in search of more clothes, cameras and other item for which we would have absolutely no use, but still decidedly wanted.
The fair was great! There were many (many) people dressed up with vintage clothes, singing and dancing to the sounds of music bands and individual singers performing classics. Outside, a beautiful collection of old cars was patiently waiting to be photographed and admired. I wish we could have tried them, but even then I would not have been able to drive them since I do not yet have my licence.
If only the fair was closer to Liverpool! We would have loved to spend more time in this very joyful environment.
Now, I am afraid this is the moment I will have to speak about them. The trains. On any regular day going from Liverpool to York is fairly easy, maybe a bit long, but easy. However, because of industrial actions it took us twice the time to get there and more than twice the time to get back. Not a massive problem, it is mildly inconvenient but we can manage. The day was not ruined in any way by this unexpected delay, but we were delighted to finally be home.
