Venice - March 2023

Back in March 2020, we decided to go to Venice between our birthdays. Now, if you remember 2020, you might already see where this is going … As for many, many people our flight got cancelled 2 days before departure, and we never managed to rebook it for the next 2 to 3 years. Emily’s birthday was the perfect occasion to finally go this year.

For this trip I decided to bring my trusty Canon AE 1 Program with my Canon FD 35 mm f2.8 and my Canon FD 70-210 mm F4. I had been to Italy a few times before so I knew some streets (or canals) were narrow and a wide angle would be good to capture it. Maybe I could have gone for 28 mm but 35 mm worked well. Funnily enough, it is for the same reason I decided to bring the 70-210 mm, so I could close in and isolate the subject if it was in a narrow and busy street (or canals!).

We stayed at a hotel on the Lido which means we had to communte by boat every day, and it is the best idea we had. The weather was absolutely perfect and it was a real treat spending some time on the boat, enjoying the sun. I don;’t know if I should list all the places we visited but we did all the classics: Doges Palace and the Bridge of Sighs, San Marco Piazza, Murano, the Rialto Bridge, and a lot of walking from and to other places.

As per usual, Italians were very nice and welcoming which made our trip really enjoyable. They also have about 10 thousand pastry shop per streets, so we were not in distress regarding treats.

The photos were taken on Kodak Portra 400, Kodak Gold 200, Kodak Ektar 100 and Fujifilm 200. The scans are standard, so I will upload high resolution scans when I have more time.
