Storm - Waterloo Beach, August 2023
A few weeks ago, as I was sat in my living room, I noticed the light breaking trough the blinds and falling nicely onto the plants near the wall. I had a look by the window and saw a beautiful and sunny day, so I decided to go to the beach for a walk.
I grabbed my Foca Sport II, a roll of Kodak Ektar 100 and my Gossen Sixtino handheld lightmeter, and jumped in the car. Of course, as soon as I arrived, the rain stated pouring down, but it calmed down after a few minutes so I decided to carry on with my walk.
I was greeted by the most dramatic sky I had seen in a while. Dark heavy clouds making their way to the city and curtains of rain in the distance: it was perfect! I could see another curtain of rain approaching a bit too quickly for my liking from the sea, so I knew I only had somewhere around 15 minutes before getting completely soaked. Not a problem! I could have pointed my camera in any direction and close my eyes and still get a decent shot: the sky was doing all the heavy lifting here. That being said, I had not used my handheld lightmeter in a while and I was curious to see how the exposure turned out on these photos. They are slightly underexposed in my opinion but I got this roll of film developed weeks after it happened and I completely forgot about those photos, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received the scans back.
The first photo shows a light leak (red stain) in the cloud, just above the curtain of rain, but I have to admit, I think it acutally adds something to the photo. Had it been located anywhere else on the photo, I am not sure it would have worked as well.
These are only low resolution scans for now, as I did not have time to get high resolution ones yet.
